Your Breast Augmentation Consultation
During your consultation at Layliev Plastic Surgery, Dr. Layliev will review your options for breast augmentation, including:
Implants sizes and shapes
Implant type (saline or silicone)
Position of an implant (above or below the pectoralis major muscle)
Location of incision (breast crease, around the areola, armpit)
A physical examination will be performed to confirm your compatibility with the procedure. If additional surgeries are needed to achieve the best outcome, Dr. Layliev will recommend those for your consideration. You will be asked about your medical history, including underlying medical conditions, current medications and supplements, and past surgeries.
There will be a thorough discussion of your goals so that a favorable treatment plan can be developed for you. The type and size of the implant may be decided at this stage. Information about the surgery—pre-operative and post-operative—will be tackled. Cost will also be also part of the discussion. Pre-Operative Guide for Breast Augmentation
Patients will be given instructions to prepare for surgery, including:
Secure assistance – The patient will need someone to drive them home after surgery. Assistance at home during the initial recovery process is also incredibly helpful. Arranging for these in advance is a vital preparation step.
Arrange child and pet care – Both of these activities are strenuous. It is important to arrange for someone to take care of these during the recovery process.
Stop smoking – Smoking can negatively affect the healing process, necessitating a longer recovery period.
Prepare recovery supplies – All items the patient may need during recovery should be gathered and placed within arm’s reach. In addition, the patient should set up a recovery area to rest and recover comfortably.
Avoid certain medications – Avoid taking anti-inflammatory drugs and certain herbal supplements, since they can increase the risk of bleeding.
The Breast Augmentation Procedure
The first step in a breast augmentation surgery is the administration of anesthesia. Then after the anesthesia has taken effect, the incision will be created on the crease under the breast, around the areola, or in the armpit. The implant will be inserted under the breast tissue or under the pectoral muscle. Once the desired positioning has been achieved, the incisions will be closed with sutures.
A gauze bandage will cover the treated area. The procedure can take one to two hours.
Breast Augmentation Recovery
There will be some swelling and bruising around the breast following your breast augmentation in Long Island. A compression garment will need to be worn around the breasts to help with the recovery process. It will take a few months for the swelling to fully subside and for the implants to settle in place. Most patients will need around three weeks of recovery before they can resume most of their regular activities. Strenuous activity will need to be avoided for longer. Dr. Layliev will provide you with post-operative instructions.
